Buying or selling in Houston, Texas
The largest housing market in Texas, with more variety than any single search can cover.
The market here
Houston has no zoning in the conventional sense, and that single fact explains most of what makes the market unusual. Housing stock changes block to block — a historic bungalow, a new-build townhome and a mid-rise can share the same street. Inside the 610 Loop you get older established neighborhoods and dense townhome redevelopment; outside it, the pattern shifts toward conventional subdivisions.
The practical consequence is that 'searching Houston' is close to meaningless on its own. What actually narrows it is your anchor point — downtown, the Texas Medical Center, the Energy Corridor or the Galleria — because the loop-and-beltway structure means your commute is determined more by which side of town you land on than by mileage. That is the first conversation I have with anyone buying here.
